Welcome to South Puget Sound Community College and our amazing psychology department!  My name is Chandra Miller-Starks. I have been working in Higher Education for over 20 years, including over ten years in instruction.  I completed my Bachelor's degree at the University of Central Arkansas in Secondary Education.  I have also earned a Masters degree in Community Counseling at the University of Central Arkansas and completed postgraduate work in Community College Teaching at Arkansas State University.  I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington. I have previous work experience in interventions with juvenile first offenders, a federal grant providing support services to those receiving publicly funded substance use treatment and individual, group, and family counseling.  My interests include trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Trauma Informed Classrooms, epigenetics, mental health, mindfulness, emotions, and social justice.  I am passionate about how we all can benefit from understanding the science of psychology and helping students understand how psychology relates to thier career and personal goals.  I live across the street from the college with my family that includes my husband, that works for the State of Washington, and my two children, who attend Tumwater Public Schools.  I enjoy discussing politics, hiking, traveling, listening to live music, gardening, and reading.
