Dr. Melissa Meade is Dean of Humanities, Communication, and the Arts, overseeing arts and humanities curricula, the Minnaert Center for the Performing Arts academic programming, the Leonor R. Fuller Art Gallery, and community partnerships. She holds a PhD and MA in Communication from the University of Washington, a graduate certificate in Women and Gender Studies from the University of Washington, and a BA in Communication and Spanish from Purdue University. Before coming to SPSCC she taught Media Communication and Gender Studies at Colby-Sawyer College. She chairs Olympia’s Cultural Access Advisory Board, serves on the board of the Olympia Arts and Heritage Museum, and is a graduate of Leadership Thurston County. Her academic work sits at the intersection of media studies, gender studies, and psychoanalysis, and she is currently working with Professor Liza Brenner, on "The Medusa Project," a series of paintings and essays exploring collective female subjectivity.
