Hello! My name is Sylo, and I am mental health counselor licensed in Washington State. I see counseling as a space where you do the precious, wild, and freeing work of encountering and getting to know yourself. Many of us struggle with invisible stories-- about our "enoughness" and our lovability, of how we "should" be able to control or manage things differently, of "failing", or of being "too much". Without being aware of these stories, we may unconsciously react to them in ways that take us further away from the belonging and self-compassion we seek. In therapy with me, you will be able to gently become aware of what stories you hold, discover how they came to be, and explore whether they still serve you. My hope is that you will find therapy a safe, warm, playful, and even sometimes humorous place, in which you may learn to encounter what researcher John Bowlby called "frightening, strange, and unacceptable emotions" and learn to trust those very emotions as a compass with which you can move through life.
I graduated from Saybrook University in 2020 with a MA in Mental Health Counseling. Prior to that, I received a BA from the Evergreen State College in Sustainable Agriculture and Political Economy. Outside of counseling, I enjoy backpacking, reading, cheesy T.V. shows, adventures, and cuddling with my dog and cat.
